I've waited breathlessly for this book for a while. And I know I'm in the minority, but I was so very, very unimpressed. The internal monologues with both the main male and female characters was so repetitive. As in, Savannah would drone on and on about her views of women not having a voice, or drone on about how her dad had her trained for x,y and z. Aiden went on repeatedly about subjects already discussed in the book as well. It was like, beating a dead horse verbally to the reader. When I kept thinking, WE ALREADY know this!?! It just felt like the reader wasn't given enough credit to remember previously said information.Savannah is like nails on a chalkboard aggravating. Her, "don't mess with me, I do what I want, when I want, no matter who it hurts," attitude is so grating. Oh, and she repeats variations of that sentence OFTEN to herself, because of the whole repetiveness of the internal monologues I mentioned earlier. No qualms with Aidens character. Other than him putting up with Samantha, which I doubt is likely, other than in the book. But he's made strides emotionally, battled his addiction demons and so on.I had a very hard time finishing the book and only did so because I'm really looking forward to Conors book. And I also really like the authors writing, just this book didn't make the cut for me. I hate leaving a mediocre review for an author I like, I understand reading is subjective, but this was just that, mediocre. It's a great story, one that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It would have been nice to have had more interaction with the siblings and their wives since they spent so much time with them, but I did enjoy getting to know Connor better. The chapters jumped point of views a lot. In previous books in this series, the pov has mainly been the main characters but in this book there were a lot of pov's, to the point that it got confusing at times. I had to remind myself several times who's pov it was I was reading or else I got confused. But it was interesting seeing things from other people's perspective, especially Senior's. I have no idea what the point was for the chapter with Maxim's pov, though, unless it was just as a follow-up to that side story from a previous book? It was weird how it was just there, when he wasn't even in this book at all. Very strange. The biggest issue I have with this book is the author's confusion and misrepresentation between dependence and addiction, especially as it pertains to chronic pain patients. The things she wrote in the book, it was obvious she wrote based on research/experience of addiction but had not a clue about chronic pain and how it affects people's state of mind, their lives, and their body's ability to function, to name a few things. Dependency on something does not automatically equal addiction. Research it. People who have chronic pain rarely become addicted. They don't seek the high, they don't have emotional baggage they're trying to bury, they just want the pain gone. Aiden Jr., based on the characterization of him in previous books before he got hurt, would not have become addicted to the pain meds. There is enough misinformation in the world, I don't appreciate even more being thrown into the mix when simple research would solve the problem.
